A Beginner's Note on Wick Care
Share
Wick care is a small habit that has an outsized effect on how a candle actually performs. A few minutes of attention prevents most of the common problems people run into.
Trim before you light, not after
A wick trimmed to roughly 5 to 7 mm before lighting burns more evenly and produces less soot than a longer one. If the wick looks tall or is leaning, trim it before lighting rather than trying to correct it mid-burn.
Keep it centred and upright
When you refill a vessel with new ReVerre™ Candle Pearls, position the wick upright in the centre before you light it. A wick that has drifted to one side tends to melt the pearls unevenly, which can shorten the useful life of the fill.
Watch for a mushrooming tip
A wick tip that builds into a small, carbon-flecked bulb usually means it has grown too long during the burn. Extinguish the candle, let it cool completely, and trim the wick before relighting.
A simple end-of-session habit
Trim, check the wick is centred, and confirm the vessel is somewhere stable and heat-resistant, in that order, every time you light a candle. It takes under a minute and prevents most of the issues that come up later.
